... borbély-mestere által: Mellyet a felső hatalmasságnak parantsolatjára huszanhat tábla-képekkel meg-magyarázva magyar nyelven ki-adott, Szeli Károly.
Bétsben, 1777. Schulz ny. (14)+XXVI+461+(8)p.+26 folding pl(s). Six plates (1, 2, 5, 10, 17, 21) replaced by copies.
The Austrian author's work was first published in 1775. This extremely thorough and detailed work describes the anatomy of the female body, the course and characteristics of normal and abnormal pregnancy and childbirth, and discusses the applicable procedures and methods in detail. Its popularity is demonstrated by the fact that it was published in Slovak in Pozsony the year after the Hungarian edition. Since the author intended his work not only for doctors but also for midwives, who most often assisted in childbirth, he placed particular emphasis on practical knowledge in addition to theory. The copperplate engravings illustrating the volume also served this purpose. The translator, Károly Szeli, studied in Vienna and then practiced there. In the introduction, he provides the Hungarian equivalents of the most common anatomical terms. Extremely rare.
