A címlapon régi tulajdonosi névbejegyzés. Édouard Sayous francia történész több kötetet is szentelt a magyar történelemnek. Jelen munkájában a forradalmi Franciaországgal szembehelyezkedő magyarokról ír, kitérve egyfelől (az elvileg szimpatizáns) Martinovics-összeesküvésre, másfelől a napóleoni háborúk magyar vonatkozásaira. Utóbbi témában sokat hivatkozik magyar emlékiratokra, így Dessewffy, illetve Kisfaludy Sándor egykorú írásaira. A szerzőt a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia érdemeiért tagjai közé választotta.
Korabeli, díszes, dúsan aranyozott, javított gerincű, álbordás félbőr kötésben.
