LUDVIK KUBA In front of the Monastery in Ceske Budejovice
around 1897, oil on canvas, 65 x 90 cm, signed lower right L. Kuba, undated, framed - period gilded frame decorated in the corners, Starting Price: CZK 65,000; USD 1,903; EUR 2,163, Estimated price: (70,000 - 90,000) CZK., The picture depicts one of the festive occasions in the life of society at that time carefully studied by the artist with its everyday aspects. L. Kuba found his major source of inspiration in genre scenes, which he used to discover during his long life not only in his homeland but also on his trips around Slavic countries in Europe. He was famous for his individual impressionistic realism based on expressive colours and light tension (S. Mayerova), which is characteristic as well for this oil. A similar version of the painting from 1897 is reproduced in the book: M. Micko, V. Nezval, J. Seifert, V. V. Stech, Ludvik Kuba, the painter, Prague 1946, repr. no. 69.
