Erich Miller-Hauenfels was an Austrian painter and the elder brother of the artist Elfriede Miller-Hauenfels. He attended the Landeskunstschule in Graz and the Montanistische Hochschule in Leoben from 1909 to 1913 as a student of Anton Marussig. He then moved to Vienna, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under Ferdinand Schmutzer. He received numerous awards and from 1928 became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus, of which he was vice-president from 1965. In addition to exhibitions at the Künstlerhaus, his works were also presented at the Venice Biennale. Several study trips took him to Greece, Belgium, Holland, France and Egypt. He also lived in Italy and the south of France for a time. During these stays, he created numerous atmospheric landscape paintings that testify to his skill. In addition to these, he gained fame primarily as a Viennese painter of vedute. Both the Albertina and the Joanneum in Graz own works by the artist.
