Full description

He is glad that Mednyánszky is pleased with “the place chosen for the excursion”, and promises to visit Mrs Birkbeck (Anne Margaret Gardner, Mednyánszky’s mother-in-law). He notes that at a reception – to which both Mednyánszky and György Kmety had been invited – he and Jácint Rónay represented the Hungarian emigration. He had received a letter from prison by Lajos Asbóth (the honvéd colonel arrested in 1863, later revealed as a police informer). He also mentions Miklós Szerelmey and a certain Mr Stummer, almost certainly Arnold Ipolyi, who had been close to Mednyánszky’s family.
4 written page(s). Dated: London, 23 June (1864).
