Pesten, 1825. Petrózai Trattner Mátyás. 1pl(s). (engraved title page by Lehnhardt)+245+(3)p. First edition.
This great national epic commemorating the conquest of Hungary is an emblematic work of the Reform Era and the beginning of Hungarian Romanticism. After several similar attempts, the work was completed in early 1825 and published in September. Interestingly, the image on the title page was drawn by Károly Kisfaludy. The reception of the volume was controversial: although only 80 people responded to the subscription call (40 of whom were friends of the author), the literary public received it with almost unanimous enthusiasm, which brought national recognition to its author.
Original paper in modern hardpaper case. Uncut.
