The Czechoslovakian architect, urban planner, architectural theorist, painter, graphic artist and scenographer Vlastislav Hofman studied architecture in Prague from 1902 to 1907. In the period that followed, he was a representative of the so-called Bohemian Cubism, which was represented by the Artěl artists' association until the 1930s. Among other things, Hofmann wrote articles for the newspaper “Právo lidu” (Human Rights). He also made stage design designs for the Prague “Divadlo na Vinohradech” (Theater in the Vineyards), of which the stage design for a production of Hamlet by Karel Hilar particularly caused a stir.
