Peter Marquant is an Austrian artist and has been an important representative of abstract painting in Austria since the 1980s. From 1972 to 1981, Marquant studied with Wolfgang Hollegha and Josef Mikl at the Academy of Fine Arts. He built on the abstract painting of his teachers and developed his own formal language from it. The experience of nature and the intense light of Mallorca determine his work. Bright oil paintings with abstractions of avenues and plants. Most of the pictures have no title because the abstract in them is stronger than any possible association. He applies color through movement and incorporates shapes that are reminiscent of trees and plants. In other works, vertical or horizontal color fields determine the composition of the image. Marquant lives and works in Vienna and Mallorca.
