Pest, 1861. Heckenast. (4)+328p.
The famous composer’s major work was first published in French (Des Bohémiens et de leur musique en Hongrie) in 1859. This is the first Hungarian edition, a German edition also appeared the same year. Based on the binding, the engraved frontispiece portrait of the author bound before the title, and newspaper clippings mounted at the end, this copy clearly belonged to the collection of Dr. József Szalay, bibliophile and police chief of Szeged.
Elegant, early 20th-century half leather.
