LASZLO BENCZE* (Szekesfehervar 1907 - 1992 Budapest): Village in Transylvania
LASZLO BENCZE* (Szekesfehervar 1907 - 1992 Budapest)
Village in Transylvania
oil/canvas, 55,5 x 65 cm
signed Bencze M.

ESTIMATE °€ 600 - 1200
STARTING PRICE °€ 600

Margit Bencze was a Hungarian artist. She studied at Bertalan Karlovszky's private school and with Simon Hollósy in Munich. She regularly took part in the exhibitions of the National Salon with her landscapes. In connection with the Austro-Hungarian compromise of 1867, the multi-ethnic, but predominantly Romanian, Transylvania lost its status as an independent Austrian crown land and became part of Hungary. Bencze's depiction of the village in Transylvania should be seen in the context of Hungarian nationalism and the radical Magyarization policy of those years. Today, Transylvania is part of Romania.

PLEASE NOTE:
The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
