Full description

The author of the letter was a friend of Endre Ady, who often visited his parents' house in Margitta. He reports on the funeral, which neither the poet's parents nor the addressee and his wife were able to attend. He expresses his condolences and then praises Ady at length in the voice of an old friend. He concludes with the following words: "Now the same thing is happening to him that happened to Petőfi for a long time. They are looking for the politician in him at all costs... But I hope that the time will soon come when pure literary criteria will prevail in his assessment."
