Heinz Klima was an Austrian painter and graphic artist and representative of post-war modernism. After abandoning his medical studies, he studied from 1947 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Josef Dobrowsky, Albert Paris Gütersloh, Sergius Pauser, Fritz Wotruba and Herbert Boeckl. From 1952 he was a member of the Vienna Secession. He traveled to Tuscany and Sicily. Fascinated by French painting and Cubism and influenced by the Austrian and German Expressionism, he formally approached Tachisme and Informel. Klima developed an independent formal language, which he implemented primarily in his prints through a reduced form of expression. He primarily created abstract portraits and landscapes but also reduced depictions of figures.
