Ferdinand Kitt was born 1887 in Vienna. Between 1907 and 1914 he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in the class of Rudolf Bacher. In 1914 Kitt, his teacher Bacher and the colleague Josef Dobrowsky travelled to Italy, they visited Rome, Ravenna and Venice. After the end of the First World War he became a member of the Viennese Secession, between 1926 and 1929 he was also the president of the Secession. From 1927 until 1947 Kitt teached young students at the Viennese Academy for female artists. In 1926 he initiated the Zinkenbacher Malerkolonie (Painters Colony Zinkenbach) near the Wolfgangsee, which existed until 1938. In the summer months Viennese artists like Josef Dobrowsky, Ernst Huber, Georg Ehrlich and others came to Zinkenbach and worked there. Although in 1938 this group broke up, Kitt stayed in Zinkenbach and quit his studio in Vienna. Ferdinand Kitt died 1961 in Vienna.
