Történelmi szakmunka, a szerző skót filozófus és történész, Salisbury püspöke volt. Műve négy részből áll: az első könyv az angol forradalom eseményeit tekinti át (1660-ig), a második és harmadik könyv II. Károly uralkodását (1673-ig, illetve 1685-ig), a negyedik pedig II. Jakab időszakát, 1688-ig. A mű második része tíz évvel később jelent meg. Példányunkban a 118. p. utáni két levél fordított sorrendben kötve.
Prov.: Bibliotheca Comitis Georgii Károlyi. Az első kötéstábla belső felén gróf Károlyi György acélmetszetű, címeres ex-librise. [Gróf Károlyi György (1802–1877), politikus, Széchenyi István mellett nagyformátumú mecénás, utazó és államférfi. A forradalom után nemzetközi hírű mintagazdaságot szervezett, ő építtette a pesti Károlyi-palotát is.]
XIX. század közepén készült, díszesen aranyozott, bordázott gerincű, vaknyomásos félbőr kötésben, színes, mintás festésű lapszélekkel. Dekoratív, szép példány.
