The first edition of a rare, east-to-the-top, copper-engraved map of Cyprus published by Claudio Duchetti. The engraver is considered to be Paolo Forlani, a prominent member of the Lafreri School, who collaborated with several Italian cartographers, including Duchetti. Based on Bartolomeo Faleti’s work (1560) but affected by the elements of manuscripts of other contemporary sources. The map field is illustrated by topographic details, vignettes of cities, galleys, sea monsters, and a strapwork cartouche at the top right. Fine, clear copy. Dimensions: 285 x 220 (445 x 305) mm.
