Anna Bartoniek was a Hungaran artist. From 1914 to 1922, interrupted by the World War, she studied at the University of Fine Arts in her hometown of Budapest with Oszkár Glatz, István Réti and János Vaszary. In 1918 she also attended the Budapest Free Art School. In 1924, she went on a study trip to Rome, Venice and Vienna. In 1931, she was one of the founders of the New Group of the Hungarian Artists' Association, She later became a member of the resulting New Eight (Új Nyolcak). In the mid-1930s, Bartoniek turned to woodcuts. From then on she worked almost exclusively in this technique.
