Alfred Keller worked as an architect, interior designer, painter and graphic artist. As a painter, he created numerous vedutas and landscape motifs, inspired by his travels. From 1893 to 1898, Keller studied architecture at the Technical University in Graz, received his final diploma in 1899, and then worked in the civil service in Vienna until 1908. He then worked as a freelance architect and interior designer and built numerous buildings at home and abroad. First represented in the Hagenbund in 1902, Keller was a member from 1902 to 1917. In 1913 he became president of the Hagenbund. He designed numerous exhibition posters for the Hagenbund. He was also a member of the Austrian and German Werkbund and, since 1920, of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. In the catalogue for the Hagenbund exhibition in Košice in 1922, he was referred to as a “Ländliches Mitglied (rural member) - none of his works were exhibited. Keller worked as an employee at the the Jugdausstellung (hunting exhibition) and the Adriaausstellung (Adriatic exhibition) in Vienna. From 1930, Keller became a professor at the Technische Hochschule (now: University of Technology), Vienna., In 1935/1936, he was dean of the faculty of architecture there. Travels and work stays took him to Dalmatia, Italy, Russia, England, France, the USA (1913 to 1915) and to Spain (1921 to 1925).
