Somlyó György 1941-ben a következőket írta a Nyugatban a kötetről: "Megint egy új Ady-fordítással lett szegényebb a magyar irodalom. René Bonnerjea fordítása kiválóan alkalmas arra, hogy minden finomabb ízlésű angolt jóidőre elfordítson Adytól és az egész magyar irodalomtól. ...Bonnerjea csalhatatlan érzékkel meglátta és visszaadta azt, ami Adyban modorosság és kicsiség, ami tisztátalan és szorosan egy emberhez kötött, s kicsúszott ujjai közül mindaz, ami általános és örök, ami zengés és tisztaság."
