Gyula-Fejér-Váratt, 1647. Ciko Mihaly költségén... Brassai Major Marthon ny. (7)+302 [recte 292]+(3)p.
Translation of János Kitonich's Latin-language handbook on customary law in Hungary. János Kászoni was a clerk in the Grand Chancellery of Transylvania. The work was the only scholarly legal handbook of its time relating to Hungary, and its importance is demonstrated by the fact that from the second half of the 17th century until the end of the 19th century, it appeared as an appendix to the official editions of Hungarian laws. The RMNy presents two versions of the work. One page was reprinted due to a serious, confusing error (the word "Christus" was used instead of "curialis"), but by then 200 copies had already left the printing press. Thus, the incorrect text is variant "A" and the corrected text is variant "B". Our copy is one of the rarer former ones, in which the incorrect text has been crossed out and the correct text has been written in with a pen. It is a rare edition, and we have found no trace of it appearing at auction.
Most of the handwritten notes at the beginning and end of the volume are related to the content of the volume and are written in Hungarian. In addition, there is a Latin poem and Christmas-related predictions.
Blindstamped, contemporary leather. Some leaves slightly stained, some restored (this does not affect the text).
