In his „A magyar ponyva tüköre” (Mirror of Hungarian Chapbooks), Péter Pogány calls Putnoki “the chapbook minstrel of the War of Independence,” while noting of the publisher: “In the year of revolution he poured forth nationalistic news-sheets and battle ballads by József Putnoki.”
