(Werbőczy István) Werbeutz, Stephanus de: Decretum Oder Tripartitum Opus Der LandtsRechten unnd Gewonheiten des Hochlöblichen Königreichs Hungern / Durch -- In Lateinischer Sprach beschrieben.
First German edition. Reference book of the Hungarian customary law. Urged by the Parliament and at the request of King Wladislav II, István Werbőczy set down the Hungarian laws in writing, and presented his work to the Parliament in 1514. Although it was not given legal force, it was in general use until 1848. The originally Latin book was published in Vienna three times between 1517 and 1561, its first German edition appeared in 1599. With the woodcut arms of Hungary on the title-page. Contemporary vellum. The spine is damaged and there is water-stain on the last 10 leaves.
