Kolozsvártt, 1849. Burián Pál (cath. főtanoda ny.) (4)p.
The spurious text of Lajos Kossuth’s prayer, „recited while kneeling at the graves of Hungarian soldiers who fell in the Battle of Kápolna”, and Kossuth himself denied ever having spoken it. First published anonymously, its author, István Roboz, revealed his identity only in 1880. A former student in Pápa, lawyer, and journalist, he served as secretary to Gáspár Noszlopy, commissioner of Somogy County, during 1848–49. He composed the text at Pál Csapody’s manor in Ádánd. It subsequently went through numerous editions, often with variations, and was translated into several languages. Every edition is rare, this issue is not listed in the National Library’s online catalogue and has never appeared at auction.
