With one of the most curious Hungarian titles, this volume is of considerable ecclesiastical historical significance as well. As a prelude, the Lutheran notary of Sopron, Ferdinánd Dobner, published a poem in 1717 for the bicentenary of the Reformation, “Wie alt is Luthers Lehr?”. A Catholic response followed, authored by his son, Ábrahám Egyed Dobner, who had meanwhile converted. The work first appeared in German as “Ödenburgerisches rothes Ay” in Vienna, 1718. The Hungarian translation here is followed continuously by a supplement, a translation of a 1706 work by Johann Fabricius, a German Catholic theologian, on similarities between Catholic and Lutheran teachings. Four leaves of the supplement are supplied from another copy. Exceptionally rare – to our knowledge, it has appeared at auction only once in the last fifty years.
Signed, rust-coloured leather. The front cover depicts a cock standing on an open book laying a red egg, inside which the Fire Tower is visible with crooked spire, on the back cover a hen is shown. In hardpaper case.
