VIKTOR BAUER* (Vienna 1902 - 1959 Nice)

Garden view, 1949
oil/canvas 65,3 x 53,7 cm
signed Bauer, dated 49

SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 2000 - 3000
STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 2000

The Austrian artist Victor Bauer spent his childhood and high school years in Munich and then attended the medical faculty and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. From 1926, he taught anatomical drawing at the art academy. During this time his circle of acquaintances included Franz Kafka, Adolf Loos, Else Lasker-Schuler and Sigmund Freud. Bauer's increasing interest in the Surrealist movement and friendships with artists such as André Breton and Salvador DalÍ took him repeatedly to Paris, where he also worked on the Second Surrealist Manifesto in 1929. From 1932 to 1936, he lived in the French capital, and from 1936 in Nice. During the Second World War, Bauer was active in the resistance movement. As a result, he was arrested in Italy in 1943 and sentenced to death, but was subsequently released. In 1946/47, he finally settled in Nice and concentrated on his artistic work until the end of his life. Further artists and styles: Surrealism, Symbolism, André Breton, Salvador Dalí, Paul Éluard, Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes, Jacques Prévert, Joan Miró, René Magritte, Yves Tanguy
PLEASE NOTE:
The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items.
The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
