Velem vagy ellenem
One of Marcell Vértes’ most famous political posters, created during the dictatorship of the proletariat. The colored, lithographed sheet, produced at the Radó Art Institute in Budapest, centres on the figure of a young soldier holding a red flag adorned with flowers, presumably tied up for recruitment, in his left hand. This sheet was also published in a smaller size (950 x 630 mm), which is much more common.
After the fall of the Soviet Republic, the artist first emigrated to Vienna and then to Paris. There, he established his popularity with a propaganda folder depicting the alleged atrocities of the White Terror. Later, his art – strikingly erotic – garnered him well-deserved success overseas as well.
