Pesten, 1882. szept. 11-én kelt, saját kézzel írt, aláírt, 12 soros levele Eminentiem! Legkegyesebb Uram! megszólítással. „Tudassa velem, hogy hol s mikor lesz szerencsém találkozni Eminenciáddal… A legőszintébb, mély tisztelettel alázatos szolgája Trefort.”
Trefort Ágoston (Homonna, 1817. – Budapest, 1888.) magyar művelődéspolitikus, publicista, vallás- és közoktatásügyi miniszter, az MTA tagja, később igazgatója, majd elnöke 1885-től 1888-ig.
220 × 142 mm. méretű levélpapíron, mely fekete kartonlapra néhány pöttyel felragasztva, próbáltam alákukucskálni elcsípve esetleg a címzett (Eminenciás Úr) személyét, de úgy látom, a levél hátoldala üres… Az Eminenciás Úr! megszólítás a bíborosoknak kijáró tiszteletadás…
