A Queen Mary a kontinentális Európában az 1920-as évek végén és az 1930-as évek elején épült szuper-óceánjárókra adott brit válasz volt. 1936 és 1967 között az Atlanti-óceán északi részén közlekedett. A Queen Maryt a második világháborúban csapatszállításra használták. Ezután majd még két évtizedig teljesítettek szolgálatot a polgári hajózásban.
