Széchenyi István a Jelenkor 1843. június 8-tól augusztus 17-ig és augusztus 20-tól december 31-ig megjelent számaiban közzétett cikksorozatának könyv formájában való kiadása. A munka, melyben a szerző támadja Kossuthot, Széchenyi adózással kapcsolatos elképzeléseit, illetve terveit tartalmazza. Néhány levél enyhén foltos, az eredeti borítón és a címlapon kisebb javítás.
