Full description

The monarch approves the agreement negotiated by his chancellor, István Werbőczy, and his fellow judges between János, the son of the late János Balogi and his first wife, the also deceased Anna Szelcsényi, and Rafael, the son of his second wife, Katalin Bogol Nagyfalui, over their paternal inheritance (the Nagyfalu estate in Hont County and half of the Szelcsény estate).
In addition to its historical significance, our piece also hides a fascinating curiosity. Under the fold, there is an autograph entry by István Werbőczi, one of the greatest figures in Hungarian legal history: "Lecta et correcta in dictionibus interlinealibus per cancellarium prout supra etc." (Read and corrected in the interlineations by the aforementioned chancellor).
Document in vellum with hanging seal. The vellum nearly perfect, seal case cracked, but the impressed red wax seal itself damaged only around the rim.
Dated: Buda, 2 October 1539
