Sexta Europae Tabula
Early, woodcut map of Italy. Bernardus Sylvanus’s two-sheet depiction published by Jacobus Pentius de Lencho in „Claudii Ptholemaei Alexandrini liber Geographicae”. Sylvanus used Giacomo d’Angelo’s – often criticised – Ptolemy-translation and copied the maps from a previous Roman edition, but this was the first edition printed in two colours, and Sylvanus added modern updates to Ptolemy’s plates. Additional – two-sheet – map-parts on verso.
Dimensions: 420 x 285 mm.
Repaired, burnt damage on one lower corner of each sheet (60 x 30 mm). Several cracks on right part restored by paper splitting and lining.
