Schwartner Márton (1759-1823) a hazai statisztika úttörője mondotta: a statisztika „az állam legújabb, most folyó története, avagy az állam fő jellemzőinek rendszeres elbeszélése.” Schwartner ezen munkája a maga korában kitűnő mű volt, melyből a második kiadás után Frankfurtban francia fordítás is jelent meg.
