Karl Scherffer a bécsi egyetem professzora volt, könyve nemcsak egy szépen illusztrált összefoglalója a kor fizikai ismereteinek, de az érzékszervek élettanával, funkcionális anatómiájával is foglalkozva medicinális vonatkozásokkal bír, nem utolsó sorban gyönyörű illusztrációi révén. A két rész egységes korabeli papírkötésben, kissé kopottas állapotban.
