Johann Christoph Schambogen (1636, Glatz – 1696, Prága) a prágai Károly Egyetem jogtudományi professzora, 1687-től 1689-ig és 1692-tól 1693-ig rektora. A mű a szerző prágai Károly-Ferdinánd egyetem jogi auditóriumában tartott nyilvános előadásainak könyve D Justinianus (keletrómai császár /482-565/, uralkodása alatt állították össze a Corpus Jurist, a római jog rendszeres gyűjteményét) jogintézményeiről. Példányunk már a 4. kiadás (az első 1676-ban jelent meg). A 4 könyvből az első 3 könyv folyamatos lapszámozással, a Liber IV. újrakezdődő lapszámozással, a végén Index, a teljes műre vonatkoztatva.
Példányunk 4 kötetbe kötve, érdekessége, hogy minden számozott levél mellé egy üres levél lett bekötve, tehát az összesen 1070 oldalas mű 535 plusz üres levelet is tartalmaz, jegyzetelés céljára, mind üres. Így tehát terjedelemre dupla méretűre növekedett a mű.
A négy kötet egységes, korabeli, egészpergamen-kötésben, pirosra festett lapszélekkel, szép állapotban. A gerincükön egy-egy római szám jelzi a kötetszámot.
