A híres emblémáskönyv harmadik kiadása, illusztrációk nélkül jelent meg. Nikolaus von Reusner (1545-1602) német jogász, író, Zsámboky János jóbarátja volt, családjának először Kelet-Magyarországon és Erdélyben voltak birtokaik. Emblémagyűjteménye először 1588-ban, Frankfurtban látott napvilágot.
Az emblémaköltészet jellegzetesen manierista műfaj, melynek megteremtője és Európa-szerte ismert művelője az olasz Andrea Alciati volt. Az embléma oktató, bölcselőszellemű, epigramma tömörségű vers, amihez gyakran képet is mellékeltek. Reusner munkája a világtörténelem uralkodói mellé rendel emblémákat Julius Caesartól egészen II. Rudolf német-római császárig. (Studio Ant. 36. árv.)
