Pelbartus de Themeswar: Aureum Sacrae Theologiae Rosarium, Juxta Quattor Sententiarum Libros Quadripartitum. Ex doctrina Doctoris Subtilis, Divi Thome, Divi Bonaventurae, alioriumque, Sacrorum Doctorum... Tom(i) I-II [bound together].
Venetiis, 1586. Ex Officina a Damiani Zenarii. (16)+239+(16)+359 leaves.
The first two pieces of the author's four-volume theological encyclopedia. This was his last work, the first two parts of which were published during his lifetime, the rest were published by his student Osvát Laskai in 1507 and 1508. The second volume has outstanding importance in Hungarian cultural history, as it was the first printed book in which Hungarian words can be found: the names of 22 animals and plants can be read in it (e.g. gomba, hársfa, fajd, héja, viza, patkány).
Pelbartus Temesvári was the most important writer-preacher of medieval Hungary and became a classic of the preaching literature of the time known throughout Europe. After the success of his first work, “Stellarium”, the observant Franciscan published his sermon collection “Pomerium”, or Orchard.
Contemporary vellum. Spine slightly damaged.
