A szerző református lelkész, addig fel nem használt nyugati forrásokra is támaszkodó, összefoglaló magyar történeti munkájában – elvetve a krónikaírás hagyományait – megpróbált reális képet adni hazánk történelméről. Nagyrészt az európai Zrínyi-kultusznak köszönhető népszerűségét jelzi, hogy még ugyanabban az évben angol nyelven is napvilágot látott. RMK III 2192, Apponyi 862, Honterus 83/8.
Későbbi, XIX. század második felében készült, díszesen aranyozott, bordázott gerincű félbőr kötésben. Megkímélt állapotú, szép példány.
