late 1950s - according to specialists from the Museum of Mane Katz in Tel Aviv, oil on canvas, 39 x 49 cm, signed lower left Mane- Katz, framed Condition: restored, cracks Literature: L´Ecole de Paris 1904 - 1929, Paris 2000 - 2001, pp. 312 and 350, exhibition catalogue, Starting Price: CZK 120,000; USD 3,514; EUR 3,993, Estimated price: (140,000 - 180,000) CZK., This painting by one of the leading artists of the so-called Paris school is placed in its expressionist branch. The artist`s style crystallised during his first stay in Paris in 1913 - 1915 and did not change later. Strong, unrefracted colours, dynamic and abbreviated brush strokes aiming at creating a powerful impression are typical of the artist evident in the offered picture. Mane - Katz was a very close friend with another famous member of the Paris school - Chaim Soutine, however, he lacks his nervous affected dramatics and explosiv brisance, which shifts Soutine to the very border of abstraction.
