Lucien Hervé (* 7 August 1910 in Hódmezővásárhely, Hungary, † 26 June 2007 in Paris, France), born László Elkán, was a French photographer of Hungarian origin. In 1932, Hervé initially worked as a fashion design representative, later becoming a fashion designer for fashion houses such as Patou, Rochas, Lelong, Paquin, Worth, Schiaparelli, Molineux, Lanvin and Chanel. During World War II, as a member of the French Resistance, he adopted the name Lucien Hervé. He painted and participated in the Paris Salon d‘Automne exhibitions. In 1949, he met Henri Matisse. The same year he photographed Le Corbusier‘s Unité d‘Habitation. He sent the architect the 650 photographs he had taken in a single day, whereupon the architect asked him to become his in-house photographer. In 1950, he began photographing intensively for Le Corbusier. Until 1955, he photographed regularly for Le Corbusier, as well as for numerous internationally renowned architects such as Alvar Aalto, Marcel Breuer, Kenzō Tange, Richard Neutra, Oscar Niemeyer, Aulis Blomstedt, and French architects such as Bernard Zehrfuss, Jean Balladur, Georges Candilis, Georges-Henri Pingusson, Michel Ecochard, Jean Prouvé, and many others. In 1955, he accompanied Le Corbusier to Chandigarh and also photographed Ahmedabad. He was commissioned to photograph the UNESCO building in Paris, designed by Marcel Breuer, Pier Luigi Nervi, and Bernard Zehrfuss. He documented the construction work for three years until the building complex‘s completion. Further artists and styles: Le Corbusier, Henri Matisse, Fernand Léger, Jean Prouvé, Bernard Zehrfuss, Georges Candilis, Georges-Henri Pingusson, Michel Écochard, New Vision, New Objectivity, Architectural Photography
PLEASE NOTE:
The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items.
The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
