Gunsam first studied painting at the Academy Vitti in Paris while working as a professional footballer, then with Dobrowsky (whose assistant he was for a long time) and Kolig at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Later he undertook study trips to France, Italy, Greece and in the USA. From 1932 member of the Hagenbund, from 1945 of the Secession. Painted landscapes, still lifes and portraits (Cezanne admirer). He participated in numerous exhibitions in Vienna. 1958 he received the title of professor. Gunsam specialized in architecturally constructed landscapes in bold colours.
