Full description

IRMGARD LOEW (active in the 1920s)

Circus Henni, ca. 1924
gouache/paper 58 x 49,5 cm
inscribed Henni kommt
design for a poster

SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE °€ 800 - 1200
STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE °€ 800

Little is known about the German artist Irmgard Loew (née Steil) except that she was active in the Bauhaus community in the 1920s and married Bauhaus artist Heinz Loew (1903-1981). The Bauhaus art school was founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius with the aim of creating a new "architecture": art and craft should be combined. Legendary were the frequent festivals of the "Bauhäusler", which were always held under a motto for which the students made suitable costumes themselves. Irmgard Loew's cheerful poster designs also correspond to the desire to dress up and celebrate. Further artists and styles: Heinz Loew, Oskar Schlemmer, Irmgard Sörensen-Popitz, Joost Schmidt, László Moholy-Nagy, Gunta Stölzl, Ivana Tomljenović-Meller, Anni Albers, New Typography, Commercial Art
PLEASE NOTE:
The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items.
The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
