Full description

HERMANN NITSCH* (Vienna 1938 - 2022 Mistelbach)

Untitled
oil/jute 28,2 x 21 cm
signed Hermann Nitsch, numbered 27/40

SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 3000 - 4000
STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 3000

The Austrian artist Hermann Nitsch is considered a key protagonist of Viennese Actionism. Together with Rudolf Schwarzkogler, Hermann Nitsch, Günther Brus and Adolf Frohner, he pushed the boundaries of traditional art in conservative post-war Austria. Nitsch was best known for his orgy mystery theater and for his public performances, which often led to confrontations with authorities and even prison stays. After graduating from the Graphic Arts Training and Research Institute in Vienna, Nitsch took a job as a commercial artist at the Technical Museum in 1957. The first pouring pictures were created in 1961 and he organized the first action in 1962. Ten years later he managed to purchase the Prinzendorf Castle in Lower Austria, where he regularly organizes his orgy-mystery games. In 2007, a separate Hermann Nitsch Museum was opened in the Mistelbach Museum Center. The artist deliberately used the provocation with blood, animal carcasses or religious elements to force the viewer to reflect. Nitsch made it his mission to show in his art topics that are consciously suppressed in everyday life. Further artists and styles: Wiener Aktionismus, Günter Brus, Otto Muehl Rudolf Schwarzkogler, Marina Abramovic, Ulay, Performance, Chris Burden
PLEASE NOTE:
The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items.
The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
