The Modernist German landscape painter Hermann Geiseler was a student of Adolf Schinnerer in Munich. He was influenced by van Gogh and Kokoschka and won the Dürer Prize of the City of Nuremberg in 1930. In 1948, he was a founding member of the 'Seerosenkreis' in Munich, on the writers’ side, with Peter Paul Althaus (1892-1965). The “Seerosenkreis” was a regulars' table of visual artists and writers in the Schwabing bar 'Seerose' which Ernst Hoferichter described as the 'greenhouse of poetry'. A collective exhibition of his works was organized in 1952 by the Schöninger gallery in Munich.
