Heribert Potuznik was an Austrian artist. He worked as a painter, graphic artist, fresco and mosaic artist. As a painter, he primarily created landscapes, mostly of the Weinviertel and the Adriatic region, also nudes, portraits and still lifes. Stylistically, he moved between realism, expressionism, cubism and abstraction. Mosaics, frescoes and sgraffiti by Potuznik were created in Vienna, Hollabrunn, Fischamend, Petronell, Großnondorf, Hainburg, Haugsdorf, Breitenwaida, Jetzelsdorf, Wullersdorf, and other places. From 1925 to 1929, Potuznik completed an apprenticeship as a lithographer, after which he received artistic training from Karl Josef Gunsam. Through this he came into the circle of artist friends around H. Steiner, F. Stransky, Ernst Paar and Hanns Letz. 1937/1938 member of the Hagenbund, Potuznik studied painting at the Danzig Art School under A. Finkel from 1938 to 1940, then he did military service until 1945. He was taken prisoner andreturned to Vienna in 1946. From 1947 to 1956, Potuznik was a member of the Vienna artists' association “Der Kreis”, later he transferred to the Vienna Künstlerhaus. From 1947, he maintained residences in Vienna and Lower Austria, and from 1961 only in Lower Austria, most recently in Großnondorf. Study trips took him to Germany, Italy, the Adriatic region and Zambia (1978 and 1979). Solo exhibitions: 1955 Neue Galerie Graz (with H. Stockbauer), 1958, 1961 and 1970 in the Vienna Künstlerhaus, 1985 Austrian Gallery Vienna and 2010 memorial exhibition (100th birthday) at the Hollabrunn City Museum “Alte Hofmühle”. WHis works are included in the collections of Belvedere, Albertina, Lower Austria State Museum, Vienna Museum and Szbg. Rupertinum State Museum, Trieste Rivoltella Museum, Stockholm National Museum. Prizes, honours (selection): 1965 Golden Medal of Honour of the State of Lower Austria, 1970 Golden Medal of Honour from the Vienna Künstlerhaus, 1975 titular "Professor", 1983 Golden Laurel of the Vienna Künstlerhaus.
