Helmet mask with a beak-shaped nose
19th century, height 73 cm, width 25 cm, wood with natural dark brown patina The mask's features consist of a flat face, long beak-shaped nose, two bent horns and comb-shape hair-style which is topped with a four-legged animal - possibly a horse or a leopard- but rather a dog-like shape. The mask was already repaired by its owner in the past: the broken nose was bound with a rope, the horn parts fixed with iron nails. At the edges there are holes for fastening clothes. Provenance: Bwa-Bobo (Burkina Faso);, Starting Price: CZK 180,000; USD 5,271; EUR 5,989, Estimated price: (200,000 - 240,000) CZK., Sensitive repairs speak for the long-term usage and respect shown to it. The mask symbolizes a spirit or being from other worlds whose character is presented by the mask elements described above.
