Girtanner, Christoph a svájci St. Gallen szülötte. Orvos és kémikus, politikai és történelmi író (1760–1800.), rövid életű polihisztor. Leghíresebb műve gyermekgyógyászati könyve. ’ volt az, akinek tudományos kísérletei („Anfangsgründe der antiphlogistischen Chemie, 1795.”) a XVIII. század végén megcáfolták a Stahlféle flogiszton elméletet. Jelen árverésünkön szereplő műve korának nemikórtani ismereteit foglalja össze. Egységes festett, aranyozott gerincű félbőr kötésben, az első kötet gerince sérült.
