Georg Königstein is an Austrian painter, graphic artist, illustrator, press printer and publisher. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1955 and also completed a degree in history and education at the University of Vienna. In addition, he completed courses at the Cooper Union College of Art in New York. From 1971 to 1998 Königstein was a professor at the University of Education and from 1984 to 2003 a member of the scientific and artistic advisory board of the Theodor Körner Foundation Fund. Together with his wife Christine Königstein née Vesely, he founded Edition Königstein in 1987 to publish bibliophile books with its own printing workshop in Klosterneuburg. Königstein is a member of the International Association for High Pressure Xylon. At a young age he spent time in Paris and New York and incorporated the influences of Paul Cézanne and Pablo Picasso into his own artistic work. In his early work he dealt with the cubist formal language and, without abandoning the objectivity, developed his own style of expression. At the center of his work are landscapes and female bodies, which acquire a deeper meaning through representational attributes. His works are characterized by a skilful mixture of cubist forms and expressionist colors. In addition to painting, Königstein also deals with various printing techniques, such as etching, woodcut and coloured linocut with lost plate. These prints are included in artist books and signed small editions by contemporary Austrian authors. Further artists and styles: Cubism, Expressionism, book art, colour linocut, etching, woodcut, Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Johannes Twaroch, Alfred Hrdlicka, Rudolf Eisenmenger
PLEASE NOTE:
The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items.
The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
