A rendszertan által ma is használatos magyar szakkifejezések legfőbb fogalmait (vagyis a magyar természettudományos rendszertan terminológiáját) Földi alkotta meg. A magyar tudománytörténet korszakalkotó művének nevezhető álattani könyve fél évvel korai halála után, 1801 őszén jelent meg.
