József Eötvös, Count (1813-1871), politician. Autograph signed letter.
He thanks the gift sent to him by the citizens of Máramaros County – through the mediation of Gábor Várady. He received this for his work as chairman of the committee established by the National Assembly in 1861 on the issue of nationality. The addressee of the document, which has incomparably exciting content due to Várady and the Ruthenians mentioned several times in the text, might have been the Greek-Catholic bishop of Máramarosziget. After the acknowledgement, he discusses his views on the question of nationality at length, which is why this piece can be considered an important historical source.
3 written pages.
Without date (1861k).
Slightly stained and torn throughout the edges.
