„A mult századok klasszikus nyomdász-dinasztiái közt kevés van, mely olyan hosszú ideig s olyan általánosan uralkodott volna a közízlésen, mint az Elzevier-család … Az Elzevierek ízléses kiállításukkal, kellemes nyomásukkal ma is lebilincselik azok érdeklődését, akik a divat változó szeszélyeivel nem törődve, a szépet pusztán a szépért kedvelik … Kiadványaik közül ma is becsben állanak … a huszonnegyedrétű, ú.n. reszpublikák, melyek az egyes európai s Európán kívüli államok rövid történeti, földrajzi leírását és statisztikai adatait tartalmazzák s eredetileg egy hollandi forintba kerültek kötetenkint. Nevüket e kezes kötetkék címfelírásukról nyerték, mely rendszerint így kezdődik: ,Respublica sive status’ stb. … összesen 38-féle kiadványból áll az Elzevierek ,Reipublicae’ sorozata …” (Gulyás Pál, 1912). Jelen mű 2. kiadása egy fejezettel bővebb az előző kiadásnál: „De Pontificie Romano et ecclesaiastico dominio.”
