A századfordulón, Tömörkény mellett, Cserzy Mihály (1865–1925) emelkedik ki írásaival; Homok néven írt paraszti tárgyú elbeszéléseivel ért el nagy sikereket. Cserzy a maga hangját Tömörkény hatására találja meg, ekkor már a szegediesség jegyei válnak írásainak jellemzőjévé.
